A beautiful, large hand carved wooden shoulder mask from the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. Thought to be well over 100+ years old this amazing example of African art and ritual has survived in amazingly great shape with typical aging characteristics of wood carvings.

This A d’mba or Nimba (meaning universal mother) headdress was typically worn on the shoulders of highly skilled male dancers during harvest festivals, weddings, funerals and celebrations for highly honored village guests. A d’mba or Nimba was the symbol of maturity, fertility and femininity. It’s display insured the fertility and prosperity of women, correct social behavior and the prosperity of the land and the community at large.
